About the Role
We're seeking a creative and technically skilled Junior Hardware Hacker to help design and build the physical-digital interfaces that power our immersive experiences. In this hands-on role, you'll develop custom hardware solutions that seamlessly blend technology with the physical world, creating magical interactions for our players. You'll work on a variety of projects including wearable technology like smart rings and smart jewelry that enhance player engagement and interaction.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and implement electronic systems using microcontrollers like Raspberry Pi and ESP32
- Develop firmware for embedded devices that interface with our game systems
- Create wireless communication systems using technologies like LORA and Bluetooth
- Design and build wearable technology including smart rings and smart jewelry that players can use to interact with the game world
- Collaborate with experience designers to translate creative concepts into functional hardware
- Build and maintain IoT devices that respond to player interactions
- Troubleshoot and debug hardware issues in a fast-paced environment
- Document hardware designs and implementations for future reference
Requirements
- 1-3 years of experience with embedded systems and microcontroller programming
- Hands-on experience with Raspberry Pi and ESP32 platforms
- Working knowledge of wireless communication protocols (Bluetooth, LORA)
- Ability to read schematics and design basic electronic circuits
- Experience with firmware development and hardware hacking
- Familiarity with sensors and actuators for interactive installations
- Basic soldering and prototyping skills
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn new technologies
Nice to Have
- Background in interactive art, installation design, or escape room technology
- Experience with wearable technology and miniaturized electronics for smart rings or jewelry
- Experience with PCB design and fabrication
- Knowledge of power management for battery-operated devices
- Familiarity with API integration for IoT devices
- Understanding of basic fabrication techniques (3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)
- Experience with serverless architectures for IoT
- Interest in game design and storytelling
